Dianella - Plant Profile, Care, Fertilizer and Growing Conditions
Dianella revoluta is the common Flax Lily or spreading Flax Lily, and this clump forming grass like plant is widely used in landscaping. To grow successfully Dianella revoluta and cultivars such as 'little rev' require full sun and a well drained soil. Dark blue to purple flowers appear in spring, the flowers are followed by small berries. The natural environment is a dry woodland. The species will reach around 1m depending on conditions.
With the new cultivars Dianella revoluta 'little rev' reaching around 30cm and with the attractive upright green / blue foliage this strap leaved plant makes an excellent choice for landscapers who require a low maintenance, frost and drought tolerant plant for use as a border or for mass planting. A low phosphorus fertiliser in slow release form is adequate if applied once a year in most situations.
Well suited to New South Wales (NSW), Victoria (VIC), South Australia (SA), Tasmania (TAS), Western Australia (WA). The Northern Territory (NT) and the ACT. |
